The Church Year
Christ is our focus in the way we use the times and seasons God has given us
As we celebrate each church year, the seasons transform us. Amid the ongoing years and seasons of our own lives, we remember the days of Jesus' life among us, as one who was born, lived, suffered, died, and rose again, one who with us knew not only seasons of joy but also sorrow and suffering. The church year helps us to remember that our stories, and the story of the world, are not mere random sequences of images and experiences but have their beginning, middle, and ending in God, the God who not only created our time but who has also entered into our time in the person of Jesus Christ.
HOW IS THE CHURCH YEAR ORGANIZED?
The church year is anchored in the celebration of Christ's victory over sin and death, the Sunday called Easter. In preparation for that celebration , the Christian church has added a season called Lent: forty days of preparation and self-examination.

The second most important day of the year is Christmas, the celebration of Jesus' birth on December 25. Christmas too has a time of preparation, called Advent.

The days from December 25 and January 6 ("Epiphany") are called the "Twelve Days of Christmas." Sundays between January 6 and Lent recall events in the earthly ministry of Jesus, both his miracles and his teachings.

The period of Easter and Ascension (40 days after Easter) has seven Sundays that emphasize the Resurrection. Pentecost, the 50th day after Easter, celebrates the sending of the Holy Spirit to the disciples after Jesus ascended into heaven. This is the birthday of the church. The 20 or more Sundays thereafter focus on the work of the Holy Spirit among the early church and among us.

To celebrate the church year, we offer special services depending upon the season.
  • Mid-Week Services: (Advent, Lent, Special Services) 12:00 and 7:00 p.m.
  • Holy Week Services: Maundy Thursday & Good Friday 7:00 p.m.
In addition to these services, we offer additional opportunities for worship and fellowship:
  • School Chapel Services: Wednesdays 8:35 a.m.
  • Nursery: is available on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for infants up to age 3.
